How to setup Outlook 2007

 

 

Setting up your POP e-mail address in Outlook 2007

This tutorial shows you how to setup your pop e-mail accounts in Outlook 2007.  Examples of pop e-mail accounts are your e-mail addresses from Verizon, Comcast, and Brighthouse to name a few.

This guide focuses on setting up Outlook 2007, these setting are however similar to other versions of Outlook and can be used as examples.  You will need to know a few things before starting:  Make sure that you have your correct e-mail and password from your Internet Service Provider.  You will also need to get the e-mail server names from your Internet Service Provider.

 

To setup your e-mail in Microsoft Outlook 2007:

1.   In the Outlook menu select Tools.  From the drop down menu select Account Settings…

2.   In Account Settings select New…

3.   Choose e-mail service.  By default Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected.  Press Next at the bottom.

4.   Next put your name in the Your Name box as you would like it to appear in your e-mails.  Your e-mail address in the E-mail Address box.  Finally the password you used to setup your account online or over the phone in the Password box.  Retype the exact password again just below the password box to verify.

5.   From there you can press Next and it will automatically setup and complete your e-mail account.  If it doesn’t automatically detect your settings then check the box marked Manually configure server settings or additional server types.

6.   Internet E-mail is the default setting so click on Next.

7.   Type in your name the way that you want it displayed in your e-mail messages in the Your Name box under User Information.  Next type in your e-mail address in the E-mail Address box.  Under Server Information leave the default POP3 selected.  In the Incoming Mail server box type in the incoming server name your ISP gave you.  In the Outgoing Mail Server box type in the outgoing server name your ISP gave you.  They will be different depending on who your ISP is.  Under the Logon Information section type in your e-mail address in the User Name box.  In the Password box type in the password you setup to create your e-mail account.  Check the box Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) and press More Settings…

8.   If your ISP has you using an SMTP relay then you would make the changes here.  Go to the Outgoing Server tab and select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.  Leave the defaults and press OK.

9.   You can then press Test Account Settings… to verify that everything is setup right and then press Next and Finish.

You can now send and receive email without having to log into your website.  You can also add additional accounts once you have them setup with your ISP.
